A pair of Chinese sang-de-boeuf glazed bowls, Langyao hong, Kangxi period, each of lobed form with a strawberry-aubergine red crackle glaze, the underside with a pale celadon crackle glaze, old labels inscribed ‘ex Stephen Winkworth’ collection.
Stephen D. Winkworth was a founder member of the Oriental Ceramic Society on 31st January 1921 at his house, 13 Craven Hill Gardens. He was a major contributor to the Royal Academy exhibition of 1935-6. He gave most his collection of Chinese porcelain to his son William Winkworth and to the British Museum. 19.5 cm diameter, some damage

Condition:
As shown, one bowl neckrim badly chipped, four sections of ceramic retained but not sufficient sections to complete a satisfactory repair; a crack issuing downward from this chip, approx. 6cm; two further small chips to neckrim, approx. 3 x 2mm and 2 x 1mm. Other bowl with four chips to neckrim, largest approx. 6 x 4mm. Both clearly crazed. No specific provenance other than the credible labels attached.
