A near pair of large Ralph Wood type pearlware figures of 'Medici' lions, c.1800-10, on faux marble plinths, L. 33.5cm

The first lion facing slightly to its left has firing cracks in various places, a crack to the base mostly visible from underneath, a break to the centre of its tail which has been re-glued, a crack appears to run up its right rear leg and there are some occasional flakes to the enamel colours which have been retouched in, there is also a break to the join of its tail to its body with some remnants of glue, the enamelling on the leaf border of the plinth has flaked off in large areas, the second lion facing slightly to its right is of slightly different construction underneath the plinth and the pearlware is less blue in tinge, there are some remnants of gilding to the ball, the tail has been broken off at the join to the body and where it meets the base with some gaps and remnants of glue, there is some occasional flaking and wear to the enamel colour around the edge of the plinth and some firing cracks visible underneath, one of its canines in its upper jaw is missing.
