black cloth, v.good condition, gilt stamped upper cover with Japanese characters (Gilbert 2nd state binding A), dj (paper) unclipped, clear plastic overwrap, torn with loss spine head and tail, at head loss just touches 'N' of IAN', at bottom part of publishers device (at the black beneath), lower cover part with some closed tears, some marks overall, sl. loss lower flap (bottom at cover join); text with feint crease p.155 (mostly marginal), pencilled note front free e/p verso '2nd state of 1st Impression' (appears to be correct, would they all have been so treated!), collates with Gilbert (no black called for at end).
