A Japanese Meiji period carved wood and shibayama cabinet, blind fret carved throughout and decorated with ivory and mother of pearl inset panels of birds, flowers, masks and other ornaments, W.4ft 10in. D.1ft 4in. H.7ft 11in.

Top dragon cresting was not originally used by the previous owner presumably due to the ceiling height and is now very dirty and dusty but otherwise intact and complete, equally the side scroll brackets to the top are detached, both in good order but in need of small repairs to the dowels, main body of the piece is all in very good condition of even dark to mid brown colour and a fair state of subdued polish, gilt ground to the plaques is a little oxidised with signs of some rubbing over the years, some small cracking and other discolouration, most of the plaques are complete however there are missing parts noted as follows: from the bottom:
- lower left one small section of branch and a complete flower
- lower middle one small leaf missing
- lower right looks complete
- lower pair of doors with one or two small dents and a section of basket in the middle on the left
- next upper right pair of doors with some rubbing, a largeish section missing to the right of the vase, probably mother of pearl missing
- mid centre looks complete
- bowed pair mid left with some small ivory leaf missing and possibly a section of mother of pearl
- shaped section above that with four small leaf / stem sections missing
- centre middle complete
- right middle with one small section missing near winged mask
- top pair right side with two small sections of leaf / stem missing
- left side with possibly one tiny leaf or bug missing
Overall fair to good condition but for the small losses to the panels.
