Two Minton porcelain figures of a recumbent setter and a pointer, c.1831-40, the black and white setter and brown and white pointer, on Vitruvian scroll moulded rectangular bases, unmarked L. 10.7cm and 11cm
Estimate £200-300
cf. Dennis G. Rice, Dogs in English Porcelain of the 19th century, colour plates 172 and 192.
The black and white setter has some high quality restoration to the top of the base, to the right of its right leg. There is some wear to the gilding around the frieze, otherwise in good condition with no visible chips or cracks. There is a brown inclusion in the glaze next to the dog's front left leg. The brown and white pointer has very slight wear to the enamels on his snout and the markings on his coat and there is some apparent re-touching to the gilding around the base, it is not clear whether this is hiding a tiny chip or just loss of gilding. Otherwise in reasonable condition.
Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid.
