As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).

The smallest figure of a lamb has two cracks each side of the piereced hole, one showing on the side of the base and tiny chips to the ear, the white glaze has browned slightly in the firing, the gilt and white recumbent sheep has slight wear to the gilding on the horns, a chip to the tip of the its right ear otherwise reasonable condition.
The biscuit figure of a sheep has large losses to its left ear, a chip to its right ear and some brown discolouration in the firing to the biscuit body.
