As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.


The first dog who is looking slightly to his left has restoration to the rear third of the base and his hind quarters and tail and there is some wear to the gilding on the edge and some occasional black speckling and light brown patches to the glaze, the second figure facing slightly to the right has some restoration to the back of his head and neck, and some occasional black speckling to the glaze and slight wear to the gilding on the edge, there is also a shallow splinter chip to the edge of the base, both of the figures have retail labels for Howards Antiques of Aberystwyth and the retail price of £1,400.
