Provenance:
The Dennis G. Rice collection of fine Rockingham porcelain

As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.

The recumbent dog has some occasional black speckling and light brown burning to the surface of the glaze on the high points and there is a hairline star crack to the back of the figure, the second biscuit figure has a chip to its drinking bowl, some occasional grubbiness to the biscuit otherwise in good condition. Neither figure has any restoration.
