As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.

One of the poodles has wear to the gilding around the edge and some restoration to the curly part of its tail, some occasional speckling and pale brown burnt areas to the high points of the glaze and somebody has inscribed in pencil underneath Old Derby
The second poodle again has some occasional black speckling to the glaze and minor wear to the gilding around the edge otherwise in good condition.
