The house and gardens depicted on the plate are those of Wentworth Woodhouse, the seat of Earl Fitzwilliam, the sponsor of the Rockingham factory.
Provenance:
The Dennis G. Rice collection of fine Rockingham porcelain
As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.
Both plates have fine crazing to the glaze all over, minor wear to the gilding and some occasional minor scratches to the pink border. The plate with a view to the house has some occasional pale brown staining to the back and possibly to the sky.
The second plate with the folly possibly has some light brown staining in the sky and has some light brown staining to the back.
No restoration detected.
