Viger of Paris. A Louis XVI ormolu and white marble mantel clock, modelled with figures of Roman soldiers and military trophies, the enamelled dial with Roman numerals and Arabic minutes, eight day countwheel movement with silk suspension signed Viger à Paris, no.1175, François Viger - (Dieppe circa 1708 - Paris 1784) height 14in.

Case looks to have the original gilt finish with some wear down to the bare bronze at the raised extremities, spear has a more matted finish and maybe associated or just re-gilt, door to the dial does not quite close shut bouncing back from the catch, dial looks original with a few tiny speck marks but no sign of any chips or cracking, hands look original, fretwork panel to the back door is a little bent our of shape, back door closes properly, movement not tested for timekeeping, bell may well be a replacement, nut holding bell in place is certainly a replacement, comes with a pendulum and associated key. Base marble plinth slightly off white colour with a few tiny chips and natural flaws in the stone.
