The Dennis G. Rice collection of fine Rockingham porcelain
As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.
The first plate has heavy crazing to the glaze and a restored crack to the top of the border of the plate. The maroon border has been resprayed to match the restored area. The second plate has extensive open cracks and is virtually in half, but has not been restored.
