An extremely rare Rockingham cabinet tea set, c.1826-30, comprising teapot, sucrier and cover and a milk jug, each piece of baluster shape applied with flowers and green tendrils, and finely painted with a bouquet and sprays of flowers, on three branch shaped feet, all with red griffin marks, teapot 17cm high

As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).

Milk jug has fine crazing to the glaze all over, typical small losses to the encrusted to the flowers and a shallow chip to the rear foot beneath the handle, there is minor speckling to the glaze in places
Teapot and cover has fine crazing to the glaze all over, typical small losses to the encrusted flowers and two of the feet have shallow splinter chips to the edges, occasional minor speckling to the glaze
Sugar bowl and cover has fine crazing to the glaze all over, typical small losses to the encrusted flowers, the red printed griffin mark is a little bit blurry and a section of the handle on the cover has been broken and restored and coloured in green to hide this restoration, otherwise in reasonable condition.
