Lot 264 , A Japanese silver, shibayama and cloisonne enamel tray, Meiji period, W. 27.5cm, small repairs
A Japanese silver, shibayama and cloisonne enamel tray, Meiji period, decorated in cloisonne enamel with a phoenix on a filigree work ground of flowerheads, the lower right corner with a shibayama work dragon, unmarked, W. 27.5cm, small repairs
Estimate £1,000-1,500
Please note this unmarked so strictly speaking we can only describe this as white metal, the gross weight is 727 grams, of which 80 - 90% is probably white metal, there is some damage to the cloisonne enamel feathers of the phoenix with several sections being reglued, one section replaced in mother of pearl, there are some dents and bends to the filigree silver work border in places, the shibayama inlay to the bottom right corner may have been cut out of another piece as it doesn't fit the gap perfectly so this may be a replacement, there is also a little bit of inlay missing top right.
