H J Owen, ink and watercolour, Pixies on a mole hill, signed, 23 x 25cm, unframed
Estimate £50-100
H.J. Owen was a watercolourist who flourished in the 1920s. He (or she) exhibited around 20 works at the Abbey Gallery in 1928 (in a show entitled 'Water-colours of Elves and Other Little People'), and sold several pieces in the mid-1990s at auction, including an illustration for 'The Wind in the Willows'. Owen's only book aside from 'The Robber Bridegroom' appears to have been Alice Raiker's 'Tales by Mother while Betty was Asleep' (1920).
