Dickens, Charles (1812-70). An autograph letter, dated 'Wednesday Twenty Seventh April 1870', 2 pages, 8vo. To Hampden Wigram, declining an invitation to a public dinner 'I sincerely regret my inability to render service in a good cause, but I need not tell you that the efficient discharge of duties ahead undertaken must not over-ride all other considerations', signed with paraph, 1870 was the year of Dicken's death. The letter back pasted into a disbound album along with sundry 17th-19th century ephemera including indentures etc.
