An early 20th century Pickwick Patent 'penny in the slot' game machine 'The Clown', number 5879B, in oak case, width 1ft 6.5in. height 2ft
Estimate £400-600

In full working condition, the mechanism inside is a little scratched and tarnished in places with some of the sheet metal a little bent but it all works fine, it looks at though the back panel has been removed, the lock has been changed to one of a similar period with a circular plug put in around the yale key, we have the key, where the back board has been put on with nails there are a few spare holes in between where not all the nails have been put back, we have tested it with pennies and it appears that when the clown catches the ball and you put the ball down the hole the mechanism to release another coin at the bottom seems to work although we don't have the correct coins to go in to test this 100%. Apparently it might be a token. The velvet on the front panel is a little discoloured and worn in places, the lithography on the figure of the clown has some crazing and slight losses to the paint in places, the pinned in sign inside is a little bit discoloured also, otherwise a reasonable example.
