It is likely that this vase is part of set designed by Sevres for exhibition at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle.

The cover has a firing imperfection/tiny chip to one of the curled leaves on the finial. The finial has also been broken off very cleanly and re-glued and there is a shallow splinter chip to the under-edge of the cover. The vase has some slight pitting to the glaze in manufacture which has become slightly ingrained with dirt, which will remove. Both of the handles on each side have slight overglaze firing cracks to each side. There is also some occasional fine crazing to areas of the glaze on the shoulder around the handles and occasional areas over the pate-sur-pate decoration. The signature J. Gely is contained within a spray of flowers. The base of the vase is mounted on a separate ormolu stand, so it is impossible for us to examine the bottom edge of the body of the vase. The vase is attached with a screw fitting presumably through a hole which was made in the vase for the mounting and there is a screw knob on the inside of the vase but this is stuck fast. The ormolu mount itself is a bit grubby but is super quality and has an inset piece of oak underneath with four screw attachments at each corner of the quadriform base, so basically the vase is in good condition, save a bit of damage to the cover
