L'Elisir d'Amore, composed by Donzetti, first performed 1832. The Plot: Country bumpkin Nemorino loves the village heiress Adina but is too shy to tell her. She is impressed by a bombastic visiting Sergeant, while Nemorino 's tongue is loosened by buying lots of a visiting quack 's elixir (wine).
It ends happily.
