A large 15th / 16th century Istrian or possibly South American stone font, on shaped base, the sides cast with shields, 2ft 6in.

The natural colour of the stone is a reddish sandstone. There are remnants of painted layers to the exterior and a concrete-like encrustation to the interior. The base is heavily pitted with numerous tiny holes where it has been weathered. Presumably the painted layer which has now largely come off protected the upper section of the font from the heavy weathering seen on the base.
