Lot 97 , After Danneker. A late 19th century patinated bronze group of Ariadne and the panther, height 17.25in.
After Danneker. A late 19th century patinated bronze group of Ariadne and the panther, raised on a veined marble and polished black slate base, height 17.25in.
Estimate £600-800
The bronze may originally have been gilded, there is evidence of this in the creases of the robes etc but this has now largely been worn away and the bronze has reverted to a more natural slightly greenish patina commensurate with age, it would probably benefit from either regilding or being patinated. The marble base is in good order with some small chips to the extremities especially along the front edge of the figured marble.
