Lot 383 , A set of ten ash, beech and elm Windsor chairs, W.1ft 11.5in. H.3ft 2in.
A set of ten ash, beech and elm Windsor chairs, with pierced splats, leather squab seats on cabriole legs with crinoline stretchers, W.1ft 11.5in. H.3ft 2in.
Estimate £800-1,200
All eight chairs are the same in terms of model, but one is a period yew wood chair, entirely constructed from yew wood but for the elm saddle seat, this has old dents, breaks and repairs principally to the slightly mi-shaped top hoop, the central hoop where it meets the splat, flaws in the seat and some worming to the back legs which are not yew but instead look to be ash.
The other seven chairs all look to be of the same age being oak, beech and elm reproductions of the yew wood example, varying states of colouring and wear from hands rubbing across the top hoops and the tops of the arms, all showing wear commensurate with use but all of solid construction. Leather squab seats could do with some hide food and again show wear from use, most of the feet show degrees of scuffing and wear but overall a thoroughly usable set, subject to taste one might require them to have a repolish.
Age wise thought to be c.1950 but possibly a little older.
