Lot 401 , Attributed to Gillows. A set of six Victorian rosewood dining chairs, H.3ft 1in.
Attributed to Gillows. A set of six Victorian rosewood dining chairs, with carved and fluted frames and red leather upholstered backs and seats, on turned and fluted outswept legs H.3ft 1in.
Estimate £1,000-1,500
All six chairs of solid construction, one or two have a slight wobble but basically sound, five of the six are a very dark rich rosewood tone, one is slightly bleached on the cresting rail, all upholstered in red leather, one has some denting to the seat, four of the chairs show slight separation in the joint where the cresting rails meet the uprights, in one of the chairs this shows as a broken crack, the others are more hints of joints separating slightly, two of the chairs are slightly lighter in the underframe at the front, inspection from underneath shows a few scattered old inactive worm holes to the inner seat rails, but overall these chairs are in good usable condition.
