Lot 27 , A French bisque shoulder head doll, possibly Eugene Barrois, c.1860, 17in. long
A French bisque shoulder head doll, possibly Eugene Barrois, c.1860, with fixed blue cane glass eyes, closed slightly smiling mouth, fixed to shoulder kid leather body and limbs, individually stitched fingers, with original white linen and lace trimmed clothing and blue velvet and leather soled boots, apparently unmarked, 17in. long
Estimate £300-500
The porcelain head and shoulders of the doll are very securely attached to the kid body and the wig which is in poor condition, we cannot therefore see the edges of the porcelain but there are no evident chips or cracks visible. There are some marks to the face which are presumably just handling marks and could be removed and there is something in the left hand ear which may frit or it may be just some dirt from handling. The kid body, arms and legs are in good condition, the hands and lower arms are dirty from handling, the lower legs are slightly dirtier from handling but overall in very good condition without any evident tears or splits. The feet are uninspected as the boots appear to be original and are fragile and a little torn and we do not want to remove them and risk damaging them further.
Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid.
