Gentleman on original canvas, one small patched hole to the left of his head in his hair, paint a little dirty with a fine craquelure running throughout, further small signs of denting or retouching showing in the back of his collar, probably original frame which has been overpainted in thick gold paint.
Lady has several patched repairs to the back including the repair of an L shaped split and a further square patch running at the join of her dress, other dents, scratches scattered throughout along with retouching of varying effectiveness, indistinct signature lower right, housed in the original gilt frame which is now a little tatty.
