This oil on board came in for sale from a charity to whom it was donated, the oil is on canvas board which is outwardly bowing, paint is possibly a little dirty but most of the dirt seen is on the glass rather than the work itself, signed and dated lower right, housed in a the original gilt frame, the outer gesso scrollwork has been overpainted gold and has some losses, back of the board which has the original papering shows a label 'From Newman's, 24 Soho Square, London' - Newman's were artist's materials suppliers at this address 1801-1937. Essentially very good condition just in need of a clean.


This small painting is a study of a large one "Les Forces" which was completed in 1924. Authenticity has been confirmed by the artist's granddaughter Miriam Delville who is compiling the catalogue raisonne.
