Lot 482 , Orton & Spooner. A carved and painted wood carousel horse Jack, H.4ft 5in. Overall L.7ft 4in.
Orton & Spooner. A carved and painted wood carousel horse 'Jack', mounted as a rocking horse on a painted pine underframe, H.4ft 5in. Overall L.7ft 4in.
Estimate £2,000-3,000
Painted finish looks to be original, albeit with some later retouching in places, there is a broad crackle effect running through all of the paint, which also looks discoloured and dirty, light wear to the extremities but no sign of any damage of significant note, seat is well worn, no additional tack, sits on the trestle base and does have the clamps to hold it in place although these are not fitted, under frame equally looks to be old original paint with wear to the flat sections from normal wear and tear.
This is an original carousel horse that has been later mounted as a rocking horse. The base has been attributed to Lines Brothers.
