Oil on canvas which is now starting to sag a little, looks to have been painted in the late 19th century, paint now rather dirty, with some fine crackling which is just starting to lift in the dark portions of the curtain behind the boy, otherwise some tiny paint flaking scattered elsewhere throughout the work, most notably around the boys feet, paint looks a little thin, may well have been cleaned in the past, one or two light surface scratches and one small white paint mark at 9 o'clock, housed in an ornate gilt gesso frame which is now very tatty, possibly a collection inventory number 438 painted on the back of the canvas, no other labels.
