Two Staffordshire pearlware 'Napoleon and Russian Bear' covered jugs, early 19th century, the sculpted bear bodies clasping the figure of Napoleon inscribed to his hat 'Boney', 24.5cm and 28cm, both with restorations and replacements

The first bear jug with the figure of Napoleon wearing a green jacket has a complete replacement bear head cover done in papier mache or composite of some variety, the bear body / lower section has a chip and detached left arm to the figure of Napoleon otherwise just crazing to the glaze, the second bear jug has got a broken and reglued handle, restoration to the mouth, tongue and teeth of the bear, a loss to the collar of the bear, a crack down the back of the inner collar and the figure of Napoleon has a completely restored and rebuilt head which no longer has a hole for the spout, his lower limbs have been broken off and reglued with chip losses around the area.
