A rare Chinese enamelled biscuit (susancai) 'nine horses' dish, Kangxi period (1662-1722), the interior and underside painted with horses amid auspicious objects, flowers and scrolls on a green ground, diameter 32.5cm, slight faults

Provenance: UK Private Collection. The vendor's grandfather formed a large collection of several hundred pieces of Chinese porcelain and works of art in the 1920's. The majority of the pieces were brought mainly from specialist dealers and auctioneers in East Anglia and the South of England; thence by family descent.


There are two hairline cracks extending from the rim down the cavetto of the bowl short of the foot, there are two rim chips to the exterior edge of the bowl measuring 6mm x 5mm and the shallower chip 12mm x 5mm, there is scuffing and scratching to the glaze particularly to the exterior.
