A Japanese ivory okimono of a basket seller, early 20th century, some of the hats inlaid with coloured ivory and horn dots, carved two character signature to a red lacquer plaque, 14.5cm, wood stand

The figure itself and some of the items he is holding are one piece of ivory but a number of the baskets and the end of his bamboo bearer are sectional, on close inspection there is high quality restoration to the following areas - a mother of pearl disc has been re-stuck on the drum on his back, one half of the crest on the kabuto (samurai helmet) is restored possibly a complete replacement and he has been broken off around the ankles with some restoration most evident around his left ankle, a few minor fine age cracks, otherwise in good condition, old paper label to base of wood stand which says Made in Japan although it isn't a perfect fit to the stand. Height excludes the wood stand.
