oil on canvas
Portrait of Lord John Oliphant of Bachilton, Perthshire and Carpow, Brother of Baroness Nairne of The House of Gaske (the famous composer of Jacobite Songs) Lord John Oliphant lost his lands and title owing to his support of the Jacobite cause
30.5 x 25.5in.
Estimate £400-700

Oil on canvas with an old reline, canvas now showing slight outward bulging, paint overall has a rather dirty matted finish and would benefit from a clean, canvas has dropped slightly in the frame so the top margin now showing flaking and wear, it is quite possible that this frame is not the original although it is a period example, a little fine craquelure running through the flesh tones, not noted elsewhere. Period giltwood frame overpainted with gold paint and now rather tatty, label verso with extensive details of the sitter.
