Lot 800 , An 18th century carved oak settle(-)
An 18th century carved oak settle, with later slats, on tapering legs with stump feet, W. 6ft. D. 2ft 3in. H 3ft 4in.
Estimate £150-200
Overall good dark oak colour that looks original and untouched, tops of the arms and front seat rail a little lighter and worn from use, looks like the back legs are a little reduced therefore the whole piece leans backwards slightly, seat is supported from underneath with later pine planking with a swab cushion sitting within it, this is reasonable but could be improve upon, front pad feet also probably a little reduced but not as much as the back, two unexplained holes to each side rail, possibly once had handles fitted but these look large for that use but overall in good usable condition, a sturdy character piece of furniture.
