Oil on canvas with an old reline, canvas now showing some slight sagging, a fine craquelure running through much of the paint particularly the skin and dark back ground, the blue coat and stock may well have been embellished with later retouching, the craquelure running down the right of the sitter above is shoulder is starting to lift a little, housed in a period gilt gesso frame which is now rather tatty, inscription verso relating the sitter to a member of the Palmes family.
