Provenance: Taken, with kind permission from the grounds of the Dovecote at Alton Towers, from which it had fallen, following a storm in the early 1970's.
Historic England state in their listing number 1000191 that the weathervane is by Pugin. Pugin was working at Alton Towers from c.1837-40.

Obvious verdigris of the metal all over in general, along with rust patches particularly to the centre where pivot protrudes, very large dent to lower part of body on one side, split to seam at back of head and on the top of the head, spike heavily rusted. Collar at base of body has large tapering gap.
