'Une scene de la gare' c.1948,
signed,
20 x 26in.
Estimate £2,000-3,000

Henri Therme (1910-1971), from Le Creusot in Bourgogne, was a pupil of Yvan Cerf, Jean Puy and Charles Camoin. In his paintings of the 1940s he can be seen working towards a synthesis of a decorative cubism with surrealist elements - in compositions often energised by a distinctively vibrant and individual use of colour.

Oil on original canvas in good condition, a little fine but stable craquelure showing in some of the paint particularly the pale green at 12 o'clock, otherwise slight stretcher marks showing at the top but no other faults noted, signed lower left, housed in a later stained wood frame.
Provenance: Acquired during the Studio Sale of the artist's work which was held in Paris some years ago.
