Monkhouse of Carlisle. A Regency inlaid mahogany musical longcase clock, the 13 inch arched brass dial with painted moonphase, alarm hand and tune selector for 'Abide With Me', 'Home Sweet Home' and 'Bluebells of Scotland', signed in the arch George and Mary Peat, later movement chiming on eight bells, 8ft 1in.
Estimate £1,000-1,500
Overall a handsome clock of good rich colour, a number of small minor faults to the case that when added up come as a long list as follows: some small chipping around the carved flowerheads to the swans neck pediment, central satinwood panel to the pediment has been cracked and pinned appears to be lacking a finial, both reverse painted glass plaques to the top of the wood look to have had had the scrolling work repainted, left side glass plaque has a fine crack running through the right side, right hand glass plaque has a crack through it and a section missing, a number of splits to the surround of the hood door, some light scuffing and scratching to the base, dial looks to have been cleaned at some point but now has a slightly yellowish finish, eight day movement has the central chime selector fitted beneath 12 o'clock, this looks to be a later installation, movement complete and in good condition, was running in the property before it was removed, comes with a brass pendulum and three lead weights.
