Lot 411 , A Chinese Imperial yellow silk dragon robe, Jifu, 19th century, length 140cm

A Chinese Imperial yellow silk dragon robe, Jifu, 19th century, length 140cm

A Chinese Imperial yellow silk 'dragon' robe, Jifu, 19th century, embroidered in satin stitch and gilt wrapped threads with nine dragons flaming pearls amid clouds, amid peaches, bats and wan symbols, along with the twelve symbols of authority; the constellation, sun, moon and mountain around the collar, the fu symbol and axe, aquatic grass and temple cups down the front, a dragon and pheasant, flames and rice grains embroidered on the back, all above a wide lishui border, embroidered black column band and horseshoe cups, yellow silk lining, length 140cm
Estimate £50,000-80,000

The robe is a little grubby in places, there is the very occasional unpicked thread such as on the sleeves and around the hem and other areas of the embroidery, there is some slight wear to the borders around the horseshoe shaped cuffs and around the collar and to the very leading edges of the robe, otherwise it is in its original state with no alterations and the original yellow silk lining which has some slight staining to the underside of the fold-over flap of the gown, otherwise good. The collars and sleeves are later on the robe. This could possibly be early 20th century.
