Lot 216 , A mid European walnut and cut pewter bracket clock
A mid European walnut and cut pewter bracket clock, dated 1744, the twin train movement with a verge type escapement, visible pendulum and bob in front of the silvered and rocaille embossed 8.25 inch dial, the baroque case with gabled crest, 19.25ins
Estimate £150-200
Clock was running in vendors house and we see no reason for it not to continue to do so however it is not guaranteed as such.
Signs of an old restoration notably to the pewter inlay at the top, with some discolouration to lacquering that appears to have been applied over the top, also some small pieces of inlay missing and some signs of old worm holes notably around the bottom of the side pilasters, some rubbing of the silvering of the dial at the higher raised points, various small old cracks and splits running through the case. Movement appears complete but not tested. Comes with old receipt from Derek Roberts Antique Clocks of Tonbridge, described as German bracket clock from 1744 where it was overhauled with pivots re-bushed and new stopwork supplied in 2001.
