Exhibited Royal Academy 1871,
30.5 x 50in.
Estimate £2,000-3,000
oil on canvas which has been cleaned, relined and restored approx 10 - 20 years ago, canvas now still good and tight with a clean appearance and little sign of any surface craquelure although nothing obvious shows up on the UV I would suspect that there is a fair amount of overpainting present but cannot spot any signs of any obvious restoration to tears or holes etc. Small trace of craquelure showing in the white of the clouds in the centre of the picture and also in the path and white of the sheep. Picture is not signed, in a later gilt frame with title plaque giving reference to Royal Academy Exhibition.
Provenance: Private sale - purchased 10 - 20 years ago from another Sussex auction house
