A good 1831 regulation general officer's mameluke sword of General Sir George Balfour, etched polished blade, brass hilt and scabbard, named tailor's label, blade 81cms.

Note: Sir George Balfour, staff officer with the Chinese Expeditionary Force 1840-42, present Yang-tse-kiang river fight, Brigade Major for Artillery China Force 1842, Shanghai Consul to 1846, negotiated lease for Shanghai with Taotai, agent for captured property and public money from the treaty of Nanking.

There is a slight patch of corrosion to the blade on one side, there is some white polish residue to the brass hilt and scabbard, some small areas of black spotting to the scabbard, otherwise good condition. Please note the sword has ivory grips to the handle. With paper label inscribed Gen. Balfour. Comes with later printed photo and obituary. If successful the owner has an invoice from 15 / 20 years ago.
