Austen, Jane - Sense and Sensibility, Clarke's Cabinet Edition, 2 vols, 239 & 244pp, contemporary green half calf and marbled boards, gilt and blind decorated panelled spines with red labels, marbled endpapers and edges, with the original colour-printed pictorial and decorated upper wrappers bound-in, , sm. 8vo, H.G. Vol. 1 - spine worn at head (slight loss), joints weak, front inner hinge cracked, back one weak, corners reasonably good, title and wrapper browning, some text spotting (mostly early on); Vol 2 - some spine wear, corners reasonable, front inner hinge weak, some wrapper and title browning, 1 leaf (pp.51/52) carelessly opened, otherwise quite good inside. Wrappers - Gilson E2: 'no copy has been seen in original wrappers or in original cloth .......... I have one in publisher's dark red morocco gilt...with the front 'illuminated' wrapper board in......' No half titles called for (ie. wrappers are pp. 1 & 2), black before wrapper and end of text. The wrapper design 'a curious Moorish/Gothic scene (Gilson) would be very suitable for Walker Scott (possibly was used as such); the (3) and (2) pp. following the respective texts were publisher's adverts/lists, not present here. This, and the lot following, were the first separate editions following copyright expiry.
