Louis or Luigi Brugiotti (c.1818-1888), A large painted plaster statue of a Vestal maiden

Louis or Luigi Brugiotti (c.1818-1888), A large painted plaster statue of a Vestal maiden, the torch in her left hand with candle holder, the back of the plinth base inscribed ‘L. BRUGIOTTI, No. 499, LEATHER LEAN [sic] HOLBORN’, 136cm high

Note: Louis or Luigi Brugiotti (c.1818-1888) was recorded as figure maker, or a plaster figure maker, working in London. He produced busts, medical casts and decorative items, with known examples including a bust of the founder of St Bartholomew's Hospital, Prior Rahere, as well as 'bronzed' figures and painted lamp bases. His company was enlisted in the 1870s and 1880s to make plaster casts of body parts to illustrate medical conditions as teaching props for Great Ormond Street Hospital. It appears that the Brugiottis were a family of figure makers, as Peter and Anthony Brugiotti were also registered as working either for the firm or as modellers during the mid-19th century.
