A Chinese enamelled porcelain abstinence plaque, of flattened double gourd form, one side inscribed in blue with the characters zhai jie (fasting and purification), the reverse inscribed in Manchu script, both inscriptions surrounded by scrolling tendrils with small double gourds and two bats in red, all reserved on a lemon yellow and pale green ground, gilt border, 6.3cm
