A George lll needlework sampler dated 1806, by Janet Brydon. Worked on fine linen, the sampler embroidered with ornate motifs of angels, birds, deer, lions and a castle around a short embroidered script; I ask not riches nor yet length of days, Lord give me wisdom to direct my ways. Janet Brydon 1806, below a large embroidered motif of a house, with long silk threads depicting the front garden, surrounded by many motifs of trees, flowers, rabbits and dogs, within a vining border. All the embroidery worked using a variety of minute stitches. 32cm wide x 43cm high. Condition - as near excellent as it can be for age. There is no damage to the backing cloth and the coloured embroidery is unfaded, undamaged and the colours strong, as the sampler has been kept away from direct sunlight.
