A fine example of a 19th century Paisley shawl and a simple black embroidered wool mourning shawl, the Paisley shawl has a central cream cartouche and a large teardrop design, amongst many decorative woven shapes, all intricately decorated, in greens, blues, reds, ochres, cream and black, both ends finished with fringing of the coloured threads used to weave the shawl, the black mourning shawl is plain black woven wool worn folded in layers in a triangle with both borders of embroidery showing, Paisley shawl 340cm long x 162cm wide. Condition - Paisley no fading or wear, colours strong, threads strong, black mourning shawl part of the embroidery has become brown in places, otherwise good.

Condition:
Paisley - There doesn't seem to be any stains or rips, the fringed edges have fringing missing on the very edges, to about 1 inch, which may be part of the design, the colours are good. Black shawl - there are 6 - 8 tiny pin holes, mostly one end and the central embroidery has pulled in one tiny place (which could be finely mended), the embroidery in places has discoloured and become brown in places, both are in good condition considering age and use.
