This work is preceded by the 50pp. Supplement / Corrections and Additions to the first edition (published 1877), the commencing leaves of which are subject to tears and repairs (with some sl. loss), but are clean from p.21. Main Work - (9), XVIII, 696, (3), 697-1417pp., includes the 2 titles and half titles; d-column printing. Part II commences p.697. Both parts (but mostly the first) are beset by tears (with archive paper repairs), however little legibility has been lost and the great majority of the leaves are undamaged; details are - (archive paper), sm. examples sometimes at margins, 24; larger usage - 26 samples and pp..313-322; clear tear across the leaf pp.895/96; some foot of leaf tears in pt.11 (esp. pp.1049-1100); an old 14l. ms. note (Mah Jong interest) tipped-in p.1007.
