Lot 318 , A 1955 Jaguar XK140 DHC
A 1955 Jaguar XK140 DHC The Jaguar XK140 was manufactured by Jaguar between 1954 and 1957 as the successor to the XK120. Upgrades included more interior space, improved brakes, rack and pinion steering, increased suspension travel, and telescopic shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design along with minor changes to the bodywork and trim. Powered by the William Heynes designed 3.4 litre Jaguar XK double overhead camshaft inline-6 engine, with the Special Equipment modifications from the XK120, which raised the specified power by 10 bhp to 190 bhp (142 kW) gross at 5500 rpm, as standard. The XK140 had the smallest build numbers of the XK range with only 480 right hand drive dropheads. It combines the looks of the XK120 with the technical improvements of the XK150.
This car was first registered on the 27th May 1955 to Mr Patrick Bell of Hull with black bodywork. Since then the car has had a total of seven owners but has been in the same family ownership since 1991.
Re-wired by Vantage Engineering in 2018 with negative earth alternator conversion, new high performance starter motor and upgraded headlights. Braking, clutch and coolant system overhauled at the same time. New exhaust system in 2014. Presented in good running condition this is a car for the enthusiast to use or as a sound example for further restoration.
