Major Scholfield of Manchester. An early 19th century flame mahogany cased eight day longcase clock, with brass and silvered arched dial, with painted moonphase, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, 8ft 6in.

Case- the hood has three lobed finials, two of which are detached where the one on the right hand side is too loose and doesn't fit and the other has an additional cresting section beneath it and the top section is snapped off but present. There are some chipping and losses to the veneer on the arch of the hood door and some other splitting and losses around the edge. The trunk door is a little bit warped and there is an acorn shaped pendant finial at the top which is lacking. Some of the moulding on the box base is detached but we appear to have the loose pieces. The lock on the trunk door has been removed, it appears to have the original key but the problem is you can lock it with the key but not open it. It comes together with two winding keys, first one may be the original Georgian example, it is a little bent on the stem, second one is a Victorian example which is numbered 15. The pendulum has a brass faced bob and the rod which goes down with a screw at the bottom has been bent with the nut just holding it in position. It has got its spring leaf. The movement and dial look to be original, seatboard sits on the cheeks correctly and fits the hood well. The movement looks a little dusty and toned down but there appear to be no major alterations and there is a linkage to the moonphase to the arch. A nice extra feature is that there is a pull repeat which can be accessed by opening the trunk door to pull a string. We cannot unfortunately guarantee that the clock is in full working order. The dial has some occasional marking to the silvered centre and chapter ring and occasional minor scuffs to the brass plate with the spandrels. We have some weights to put together with the clock, although they may not be the original ones.
Comes with two cast iron weights, brass cased lead pendulum, two loose finials, one of which has the top part of the finial broken away but is still present with no parts missing, a small section of the lower flattened square base is now missing, winding key, original lock and a few other loose metal parts.
