Estimate £1,000-1,500

Compare a large bronze lion-form censer dating from the Ming dynasty sold by Sotheby's New York, 'Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art', 19th March 2013, Lot 311 which does not include a large vase to its back.

Typical casting imperfections all over. The elephant's right foot has some soft solder around the foot so the figure stands level. The bayonet fitting on the inside of the elephant's back has a small split and solder repair otherwise in reasonable condition.
